“You Lie” Seen As Racist

September 23, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I cannot believe what I’m seeing in today’s political realm.

Georgia Democrat,Representative Hank Johnson claims that Representative Joe Wilson’s, “you lie” comment during President Obama’s speech to Congress was racially motivated and could bring back the power of the Klu Klux Klan!

Is he serious?!?

When did calling someone a liar become a racist comment?

Johnson said,

His outburst was a carefully calculated appeal to a particular constituency who question the legitimacy of Barack Obama’s presidency. The symbolism of his act, which violated the rules of the House and attacked the dignity of the president’s office, emboldened and validated those who believe that President Obama, despite having been lawfully elected, is an illegitimate occupant of the White House.

It may have been calculated but I don’t believe he was questioning the legitimacy of Obama’s presidency. Not like the Democrats bemoaning the legitimacy of President Bush’s. And then Johnson has the nerve to say his outburst violated House rules and attacked the dignity of the office.

Let’s go back to when President Bush, before Congress, made comments about Social Security going bankrupt and the Democrats heckled and “booed” him. Talk about attacking the dignity of the office!

Just days ago, the Speaker made tearful remarks about how words can have damaging effects in the political scene. (She said this in an attack against Republican voters and those not aligned with President Obama’s Health Care Reform) We have her words and then we get exactly what she speaks against by her own party.

Let me explain to you what is really happening here: Our federal government has learned to rule by fear. The Republicans used fear of terrorist attacks (remember the color coded levels?) to keep the people in line. The Democrats are using fear of the economy, and when that strategy didn’t work out, fear of violence against elected officials.

I will promise you that as long as President Obama and the current Representatives are in office, we will hear nothing but “be afraid” in order to keep our minds glued to them as our saviors.

Weekly Address: Judge Sotomayor

June 1, 2009 · Leave a Comment

This past Saturday, President Obama gave us his run-down on why he chose Judge Sotomayor to fill the empty seat on the Supreme Court. Now, I’m not racists, sexists or any other “ists” that I know of but when it comes to holding public office, I want the most qualified to be in that position. I don’t like it when presidents turn it into a political statement or to “look good/score points” with a certain populace.

You can find the transcript here. Let’s tune in:

After reviewing many terrific candidates, I am certain that she is the right choice.

You are certain? We shall see. How many of your “certain” candidates had to back out of the process because of tax problems? Your certain does not hold much water in my book, Mr President.

there has not been a nominee in several generations who has brought the depth of judicial experience to this job that she offers.

This is just outright laughable. There hasn’t been someone in several generations?? Are you kidding me?

She has more experience on the federal bench than any incoming Supreme Court Justice in the past 100 years.

Here we find that President Obama equates depth with experience. This is fine and I would agree with it. But I would not say she is the deepest..is that even a phrase?

There are some in Washington who are attempting to draw old battle lines and playing the usual political games,

Isn’t it interesting that whenever the President or anything about his administration gets under fire, he complains that it’s all “old battle lines” and “usual political games”. As if he were above that sort of trash. As if.

her record makes clear that she is fair, unbiased, and dedicated to the rule of law.

We shall see when she goes before the hearings.

President Obama’s Third Press Conference

April 30, 2009 · Leave a Comment

We’ll look at this remarks and a few of the questions he answered. You can find the transcript here.

Beginning his statements, he explained how his administration is dealing with the Swine Flu.

every American should know that their entire government is taking the utmost precautions and preparations.

Which is a relief compared to how pathetic our previous administration dealt with a crisis on the homefront.

Our public health officials have recommended that schools with confirmed or suspected cases of this flu strongly consider temporarily closing.

This would really stink for college students who are almost finished with the year.

I’ve requested an immediate $1.5 billion in emergency funding from Congress to support our ability to monitor and track this virus and to build our supply of antiviral drugs and other equipment, and we will also ensure that those materials get to where they need to be as quickly as possible.

What happened with all the money that was given during the stimulus emergency? How many times will President Obama request immediate funding for emergencies? Better yet, how many emergencies will we have?

I’d like to mention is how gratified I am that the House and the Senate passed a budget resolution today that will serve as an economic blueprint for this nation’s future.  I especially want to thank Leader Reid, Speaker Pelosi, all the members of Congress who worked so quickly and effectively to make this blueprint a reality.

And don’t forget to mention how no one from the other party ran with you on this. Even some from your own party disagreed.

I also campaigned on the promise that I would change the direction of our nation’s foreign policy — and we’ve begun to do that as well.

Which includes bowing to another head of state…is this a good thing for the President of the United States to do? Is it time for us to get off our selfish highhorse? What I really dispised was the Press Secretary excusing it as President Obama reaching to shake his hand with both hands. How pathetic!

You can expect us to work on health care reform that will bring down costs while maintaining quality

And everyone with health care currently, stand on your head if you believe this is possible. Universal Health Care equals lower costs/quality care?

When asked about federalizing the auto industry, President Obama said:

I would love to get the U.S. government out of the auto business as quickly as possible.

And near the end of the briefing he said,

I think our first role should be shareholders that are looking to get out.  You know, I don’t want to run auto companies, I don’t want to run banks.

Mark those words everyone! They are down and in writing!

With regards to halting waterboarding:

it takes away a critical recruitment tool that al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations have used to try to demonize the United States and justify the killing of civilians.

No offense, but al Qaeda will continue to demonize the U.S. and kill civilians until hell freezes over. Stopping that form of torture will not stop the recruitment.

Asked if he would ever use those torture tools to protect the nation, President Obama said,

I will do whatever is required to keep the American people safe … and there have been no circumstances during the course of this first hundred days in which I have seen information that would make me second-guess the decision that I’ve made.

With regards to abortion and why President Obama is pro-choice:

The reason I’m pro-choice is because I don’t think women take that position casually.  I think that they struggle with these decisions each and every day, and I think they are in a better position to make these decision ultimately than members of Congress or a President of the United States

Now here I find myself in agreement. I think choice is a person’s right. I don’t think there should be a federal law criminalizing a choice like this. On the other hand, I think those who perform these procedures should do everything in their power to explain the situation, describe what will happen and offer up alternatives.

Say what you want, but this President is a good one. I look forward to what’s in store under his watch.

Weekly Address: Eliminate Waste

April 27, 2009 · Leave a Comment

On Saturday, President Obama shared his plans to reform government waste. Let’s check it out:

Over the last three months, my Administration has taken aggressive action to confront an historic economic crisis.

Glad he cleared that up because I wasn’t quite sure what was going on.

We came into office facing a budget deficit of $1.3 trillion for this year alone, and the cost of confronting our economic crisis is high.

It’s interesting that he doesn’t share with us the actual cost of confronting the crisis. He tells us the deficit he must save us from. But not the numerical value of his cost.

That is why we have identified two trillion dollars in deficit-reductions over the next decade, while taking on the special interest spending that doesn’t advance the peoples’ interests.

I want to see a website dedicated to publishing every special interest spending and who it is that’s passing it. To steal from Senator McCain: I want their names!

Too often, the result is wasteful spending, bloated programs, and inefficient results.

It’s encouraging to see a liberal/big-government Democrat acknowledging that there are some bloated programs.

we need to reform our government so that it is more efficient, more transparent, and more creative.

This is where we may get nervous. There’s that word again, REFORM.

in the days and weeks ahead, we will continue going through the budget line by line, and we’ll identify more than 100 programs that will be cut or eliminated.

I have a better idea. Instead of choosing a number (more than 100), why not go through every program and make cuts?

Here are the steps the Obama Administration will take to help reform government spending:

First, we need to adhere to the basic principle that new tax or entitlement policies should be paid for.

He’s talking about PAYGO which basically means only spend from what you have. And this worked under the Clinton years. I’m excited about this passing and Congress actually abiding by it.

Second, we’ll create new incentives to reduce wasteful spending and to invest in what works.

Translation: Tax breaks for businesses who lighten their budgets.

Third, we’ll look for ideas from the bottom up.

Bring all ideas to the table. Even “the bottom” of the factory workers. How insensitive (tongue-in-cheek). Everyone has at least one idea.

And finally, we will reach beyond the halls of government.

They’re going to bring in business leaders to talk with political leaders on ideas. I hope they bring members from all over the political/business spectrum.

Many Faces:One Complaint?

January 14, 2009 · Leave a Comment

News reports were all over the information that pastor Rick Warren was going to be involved in the inauguration. How many days did we see articles and hear snippets of people complaining about “being let-down” or “stabbed in the back” by the President-elect?

Then we find out the first openly gay bishop will play a part in this ceremony as well. It was news but where was the reporting of all the complaints about that? I’m fairly certain there were complaints heard around the country – why weren’t they given their moment to shine?

I don’t remember seeing anyone in the Evangelical leadership given a sound byte. Is that because they didn’t complain? Is it because I missed the story?

This calls to mind how radical leftist groups of the Democratic party behave. Remember the Republican convention? Riots, people screaming during televised messages. People got physically injured.

Democrat convention? I don’t remember anything about riots or speakers being rudely inturrupted.

Where’s the equality?

When will the radial right groups be heard? Or…maybe they both need to shut up for a decade.

Unfiltered Fury Of A Thousand

June 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I purchased a new computer yesterday. It came loaded with Windows Vista…forgive me if you’re a fan, but that Opererating System is terrible.

Let me correct that: the OS is not too bad. The trouble comes when Vista is trying to communicate with XP on other computers on a network. Horrid!!!! I’ve had stress out the wazzoo the latter half of this week because of it.

Here is my question: Why does Microsoft have to come out with a new operating system so many times? Is it a matter of staying ahead of the market? Are competitors driving them to push harder? I found nothing wrong with Windows XP. I suppose veterans of Dos and Windows 95 said the same thing. And I’ll get off my tantrum in a couple months…or weeks.

But seriously, the headaches are really not worth it. And Apple? You guys need to get off your high horse and lower your prices! For real, if I were to make a rather quick, impromptu, analogy I’d say Apple is to the GOP what Microsoft is to the Dems. (I don’t know if they have a cute three-letter thing going for them) That’s not to say either side doesn’t use the other computer…um…see this is where it gets tricky.

Lessons in patience and anger management right? And learning how to make better decisions. I hear what you’re saying. At least picking underwear is easier: Clean? Wear. Not? Wash.
